Sod Off. I may sail a bit close to the wind on occasion but do not insult me like that.... I mean there are just so many insults a person can take and even hinting I might be "you know who" in drag is really going too far.

How on earth can a subject like rifles at 1500 yard get onto an internet sailing forum


It was in the lounge / pub area - set up to discuss anything which did not fit into the "sailing" areas

I don't think there will be a single sensible person who has not felt the way you do but you are a great contributor and the forum is better for your presence so take another swig of milk and hang on in there
 
Like everyone else, I'm sorry you are leaving. You were one of the few whose experience and opinions I respected (didn't necessarily agree, but it was worth reading your contributions). I hope you'll be back, perhaps under another name, to contribute to the boaty bits.
 
I feel i am still pretty green on this forum but i really enjoy, when stuck away from home for large periods of time, being able to improve my knowledge on a subject/hobbie i really enjoy. I am constantly amazed at the amount of information and help available for free along with the all the humour, it has helped me pass what would otherwise have been long boreing hours at work.
I like many on this forum got very annoyed after reading my very first GC1 post, It became obvious to me that this is someone i want nothing to do with.
MY ANSWER?
If i see a GC1 post i bypass it and go on to the next, i decided i am not interested in anything he has to say, like people on the street if you dont like them ignore them.
I dont know you John but after 4000 and odd post you have been involved for a while and the peeps seam to hold you in high reguard.
I am not a big fan of banning people unless they become threatening or violent, at the end of the day the moderator rightly or wrongly has the decission to make.
I for one hope you change your mind, if not i hope you have many happy times ahead of you all the best.

It will be a great shame if you let the ba$tards win.

I think this is probably the first time I have agreed with you. I have found some of his postings offensive but rather agree with you that there has been a "witch hunt".

I am sorry that you feel it necessary to leave the forums, and hope that you may reconsider. If you decide to stay away then good luck.

Just read your post and all the nonsense in he lounge. I can't get on the net at weekends so missed all the fun and games.

I know you and I have not always seen eye to eye but please reconsider.

It is after all just 1s and 0s - not a matter of life and death.

As many others have said you make a valuable contribution to the forum - without some disagreement and perhaps even a little conflict it would be a boring thing indeed.

If you still feel you cannot change your mind please accept my best wishes for fair winds and happy landfalls.
 
Sad and sorry to say goodbye ...

We have had our moments and differences ... but never such that we couldn't walk away and sort ..... We've purred through many threads ...

I too and appalled by the destruction that has occurred this weekend .... unfortunately I feel bad that I was posting quite heatedly in the thread .. but even so - what is one persons viewpoint may not be anothers - but doesn't mean they have to be banned or shut-out.

GC1 is a b&&&& sometimes ... he knows how to wind people up and having sat next to him while doing it - know he does it in humour ... Problem is ... sit next to him when he's doing it and you know he's winding people up and you laugh with him .. but on-line the same antic doesn't come across and it gets too serious, people get all upset etc.

The world is a strange place full of strange people who do not see eye to eye ... Long may it stay that way as well. As diversity and opinion makes us what we are.

Humbug on those that bayed for GC1 blood ... for they are as guilty as he if any wrong has ben done. I can think of a few in that thread alone that should consider themselves lucky they are not banned also.

Sad ... maybe you can reconsider ??
 
I was getting very freaked out when I found some stuff on these forums about Cliff Richard - but was more puzzled to find out it was part of an advanced RYA course - the Meaning of Life, (Crime and Punishment) AND then I stumble across this playground argument with teacher and realise that perhaps I don't really know how to use the internet and looking for stuff about Yachts on something called Yachting and Boatiing World is just wrong.

Gives a great impression (to new people who may be looking
at getting into yachting) - a load of bores talking twaddle and then falling out.

Any chance of something like few more summer cruise pictures - or any decent pictures of peoples yachts - or
anything cheerful, pleasant and happy.

(PS - If you want to know my views on Iraq or any other current affairs issue (asylum seekers, murders, taxation)

I will let you have a 1000 word message by return.)
 
I've watched two other sailing forums deteriorate by first providing a playground for non-sailing discussion, and then allowing a few people to continue past the bounds of discretion. Both those forums have steadily lost the people who had something to offer on sailing and now rarely have anything to offer with respect to boats.

Maintaining subject-matter integrity is important. If someone can't play nice he or she does have to go.
 
Well thats just downright irresponsible asking for summer cruise pictures - someone is bound to ask for a separate forum.
Actually perhaps we could have a falling out forum where you just go if you fancy a punch -up

I don't think excuses wash. He is incapable of seeing how inexcusable his behaviour is.
I can't see that a lot of people complaining about his disruptive ways is baying for blood. It's just people suggesting that their enjoyment of the forum is as important as anyone else's. Some of his posts were downright rude, vindictive and personally offensive. Are you suggesting that people are misunderstanding him?
I rarely got involved in his posts, except to suggest to other forumites that he was attention-seeking. He has the ability to recognise and antagonise those forumites who feel the need to respond to his taunting.
