The warp on my boat is old and rotten so i'm going to replace it with some nice new stuff in navy blue. Does anyone have any ideas for a cheap source for buying this stuff or is it down to the chandlery again?

cheers

Jimmy Green On line or similar chandlers.
Boat jumble........ only if the warps for sale are new.
Why compromise your boat by trying to save money on something that will coast less than an night out with your partner, taxi home and few drinks.

Just an idea, but are you mates with any climbers? Climbing ropes are very strong and have a pretty easy life, but tend to get thrown out long before they wear out (for obvious reasons).

I've got about 100m of old climbing rope that I don't use for climbing any more, but that I'm planning to turn into mooring warps.

You could even try a climbers forum (e.g. ukclimbing.com) and offer a token amount for old ropes; most will just end up in the bin anyway.

I don't thing you would get mooring warps for a boat for a Tenner.

Depending on your ability to splice 8 strand rope, (depends on the size of your boat I suppose-ours is 13m and 13.6 t) try contacting Bridon Ropes in Doncaster I think? They will put you in touch with your nearest dealer.

I got a quote off them for a 220m coil of 28mm 8 strand for £645.00; Jimmy Green Marine best offer for a slighty inferior rope was £675.00 for a 100m coil. Sounds a lot but weigh it up against a rope parting and your pride and joy getting smashed.

Other options, try Cosalt, Bridport Gundry, find out where the local commercial fishermen buy from and try there.

Best of luck, avoid general yacht chandlers though!

Re: Good value warp .... Boat Jumbles ?

Unless it end of reel - all BJ's I went to seemed to be similar priced top of reel in shop. In some cases hanks were priced higher than a cut from a reel !

Never found BJ's that much cheaper ... unless it's out of boot of a car !! Then you may question origin.
