I will be cruising between Gib and Almeria for 6 weeks or so in March/April and then will have to find a spot to leave the boat for a month. Can anyone suggest a good sheltered spot along this coast. My main considerations somewhere safe and close to either Malaga or Almeria for flights. All suggestions welcome from you experienced Med. cruisers. I posted a similar question last autumn and ended up wintering in Lagos, a lovely spot thanks to all who suggested it.

Almerimar is cheap, cheerful, sheltered and clos(ish) to the airport. There is a regular bus service to Almeria if you don't want to splash out on a taxi, or the local agents arrange a cheap shuttle if you book your tickets through them. Should be possible to get a berth there in March as some of the 'regulars' will be on the move by then.

Hello, based in Fuengirola, stay in Gib.(Bus to Malaga, or get off in Fuengirola, 70 yards to train station, train stops at airport) then next prefered port to leave boat is Aquadulce, Almerimar further to Almeria airport, or better is bus/car hire(one way) to Malaga airport. All ports full usually, bar for a week or so, use the phone, port offices have usually info. on other ports/marinas.
best of luck.

Finding berths can be a problem between Gib and Malaga.
We liked Estepona a lot. We liked Fuengirola too but spent most of the time (about 2 weeks I think) on the waiting pontoon 'cos it was filled to capacity. Fuengirola also has a super local train service to the airport and Malaga. We had strong recommendations for Aguadulce and Roquetas but weren't exactly taken with either. Almerimar is big and 'reliable' and quite OK in our book, but the surrounding landscape is a bit bleak. We too, liked La Caleta. Benalmadena is horrid.

We're berthed at Bajadilla, which is/was Marbella's 'fishing' port. It's an excellent place and only slightly more expensive than Fuengirola. Good facilities but a bit of the usual Med surge when wind's from the wrong direction. We got the berth through persistence. We moored on a daily basis for a month, then they offered us a long-term space. They do exist.

Buena Fortuna!
