Following the thread about rip off Britain and poor service, I thought that, by way of balance you might like this little story.

Yesterday at 8:10am, I posted an ad on For Sale here, 10 mins later, a forumite bought it. At 12:30 I handed the item, a book weighing 1kg, over to a post office in Wales and said '2nd class please'. They said that, ahem, for a 1kg lump 1st class was cheaper, so it went first class. Peeps in PO said that ir should get there by the weekend

PM this morning this mornig to say that book has arrived in Essex.

More than that - it re-inforced my faith in human nature.

I was the forumite who purchased the book - and completely without prompting Chris offered to send me the book immediately, trusting that I would follow up with the dosh.

There's not many folk would do that nowadays.

Cheque's in the post!!!!!!!!!

I meant there's not many people would trust a total stranger. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

What I want to know is why it is that the 3% of 1st class mail which does not get delivered the next day is always mine? Something to do with postcode lottery, I guess.

you haven't bought a signed copy of the auld trout's catching ra fush? divvn't judge a book by its covers is all ahm saying ...

Oh bog off, youse auld git. Get yerself ready for your voyage. Oil zimmer frame, wax moustach, rub in the linament, empty comode and all those things that olds folks have to do

I had a similar experience buying recently from the forum - in this case the Royal Mail also did us proud, but the prompt arrival of my purchase was really down to Earlybird (the seller) who put it in the post quickly and, very trustingly, didn't wait for my cheque to clear. 3 cheers for the forum, and 6 for Earlybird!

Make the most of it. The staff at the Royal Mail have done a bloody good job of trying to get their act together and compete with TNT, Business Post etc. Problem is that the Bloody regulator is making damn sure that they loose all the profitable business - Give it five years and I would put money on zonal pricing and afternoon instead of morning deliveries !!

This country is so good at shooting itself in the foot.
