Good Sales Video. Princess 35.

That is a common problem with KAD's on the river, they aren't the best engine for a heavy flybridge crusier.
Cure is to either stick to the speed limit or install a switch for the supercharger clutch solenoid to disable it whilst on the river, a common mod.

Immaculate Fairline Brava. 500 hours on the clock.
Was featured in MB & Y a few years back.
Previous owner kept in the Med and was part of his gradual rise up the the Fairline food chain from bottom to top.
Now resides on the upper Thames and at displacement speeds cannot make its mind up wether it wants help from the supercharger or not.In out in out, clunk clunk lurch lurch.
Unpleasant racket in cockpit all the time and not much better in the saloon either.
Solinoids and pullies all had to be replaced over the years and tappet adjustment was not cheap either.
Interior is really nice.
Noise much better when on the plane, at least you can take refuge on the Flybridge. :)
Bit daft developing an engine that will give you loads of top end but a bit so wearisome further down the rev range. ?
Think it was available with Cummins if you wanted smooth seamless reliable power.

So nothing a good service and learning to drive a boat properly wouldn't cure. :)

or even a decent diesel perhaps that does not self destruct if the 24 tappets are not adjusted every 200 hours and where a service item is a oil filter not pullies and electromagnetic gizmos.
Ps. Cummins recommend checking their 12 tappets every 1000 hours.
As for disabling a part of the engine to render it usable, wonder if Volvo did a parts kit for that. ?:):):)

The Brava was an early 90's model. I doubt it would have Kad300's in it unless re-engined. Maybe Kad42's, but they really are just like your old tractor engines bar the supercharger.

Your fish hook is rusty, blunt and bent straight. How can we take your stinky bait seriously when the chances are high you have your engines mixed up :p

Could I possibly suggest to the honorable poster that careful prerusal of my previous posts will indicate that at no point was it suggested that the engines were anything other than the rather short lived VP KAD42 fitted as standard to boats of this era.
:p
According to VP the engine was a tremedous success.

Well last time I checked my venerable old KAD42's tappets I counted 12. I have to surmise then they are Cummins masquerading with a green paint job. Not sure what electromagnetic gizmo's you talk of in the service. I presume you mean root charger clutch. But to be honest that's not a service item and correctly set last donkey's years. Maybe you mean plastic pulley tensioners rather than wheels. Because my wheels are cold Swedish steel but if you have steel belt tensioners I'm going to have a giggle and point out why thats a bad idea.
As for VP saying they were a great success, well they are. Successfully out competed the petrol V8 they were designed to replace and have lasted rather well. Personally I'd rather have a KAD than a D in this size range.
About the only valid thing you've said is the KAD 42 does indeed give a sudden and pleasing boost of power at 1800rpm. Right where you are digging yourself out the hole and need it. Wouldn't have it any other way :encouragement:
