"Narrative of the Voyage of H.M.S. Rattlesnake, Commanded By the Late Captain Owen Stanley, R.N., F.R.S. Etc. During the Years 1846-1850.
Including Discoveries and Surveys in New Guinea, the Louisiade Archipelago, Etc. to Which Is Added the Account of Mr. E.B. Kennedy's Expedition for the Exploration of the Cape York Peninsula. By John Macgillivray, F.R.G.S. Naturalist to the Expedition. — Volume 1 "

Despite the fearsome title, this is a very readable account of a surveying voyage under sail. Lots of technical insight as to how such expeditions were carried on, descriptions of local customs, scenery, wild life etc.; enlivened by the occasional bit of humour.

Costs nothing to download to Kindles etc. or you can read it off a pc or laptop

Free sailing books

Sounded great, and I like the idea of free sailing books, but having just downloaded the Kindle app to my laptop, I can't get the downloaded files into my Kindlelibrary.
Any ideas.

I used to just plug the Kindle into the computer, using the cable that came with the Kindle, and then drag and drop the book into the Documents folder on the Kindle.

Or I 'save' the book into the Documents folder on the Kindle.

Yesterday I bookmarked the Gutenberg search page on the Kindle and just download the book directly from Gutenberg into the Kindle via WiFi or 3G.
