Hello all,

I've decided the poor engine in Tinkerbell should probably do with some TLC whilst she's ashore (yes, I know, this should've been done before she came out of the water, but it was late in the season and we were in a rush!).

I've been going through the service manual (aren't diesel engines simple to service?) and need to get the various spare parts. (She's a year and a bit old Beta 35)
A quick Google search has supplied a couple of possibles, but nothing particularly exciting. There is one hit on eBay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Beta-Marine-service-kit-28-38hp-/160692796675#ht_817wt_986
that claims to be a reasonably full service kit. Obviously, not original Beta bits.
What are your thoughts? Would something like this be ok? If not, where would you suggest?

As always, all suggestions gratefully appreciated.

Looks expensive, I got Fram oil, fuel & CAV Equiv. filter and anode for less than half that price - just checked it was £18.51 excluding the air filter(from memory about £7 - it's a Lister/Petter filter) as I decided it didn't need replacing. Fram filters(£13.51) from local car part distributor, anode(£5) from ebay(boatpartsandspares). Fram CAV equivalent filter came with all the 'O' rings needed.
This was for a Beta 25hp so may be different for your engine.

If the engine is 1 year old then you've probably got 2 years remaining of the 3 year guarantee from Beta, dependent on you using 'official' parts - so maybe best to order them from a Beta dealer for the next couple of years.

I have just bought a Beta35 from TS Marine in Universal Marina. Scott Sandford is the main man and very helpful. I am sure he will tell you a good source of parts, and/or quote you a reasonable price.

How did you find his service? We'll be moving to Universal when Tink goes back in the water and he'll obviously be our local man. I had been considering getting a second, 100amp alternator fitted and was wondering who to enquire with.

I have only bought the engine from him, fitting it myself with help. Scott was very helpful in explaining the benefits of the 35 over 38, etc, . Whilst he was away, his deputy stepped in and arranged a change of the control panel cable in a hurry.

Last week Scott met me on a day off to discuss a custom made exhaust pipe which I need; hopefully he is going to make it up by the end of next week.
