Kirsty McColl (RIP)
Definitely Joni Mitchell

No. No. No. Not Britney!

Look we can forgive your Celine/Whitney/Mariah/Britney lapses if you can confirm that you have a good selection of Ella Fitzgerald.

<hr width=100% size=1>

I like Ella as it happens but don't have her on CD. I also like Cleo Lane, John Dankworth's missus but don't have her on CD either. In my yoof they used occasionally to perform live at Knebworth Jazz Club. If I tell you I remember the entrance fee was 5 shillings it might help date it...

I forgot Elaine Page

And Britney is SWMBO and the Grandkids (USA) choice, honest.

Probably the saddest bit is the Country & Western collection but the instrumentals and male bands might hold a few surprises too.

I bet not too many have heard of Mikamac, have all their tapes and CDs.

Oh and Everything Andrew Lloyd Webber, seen all the shows live too both West End and Broadway!

Dionne Warwick
Maria Callas

male voices
Van the man
Marvin Gaye
Otis Redding
Jimaraquoi
Sting
George Micheal
Andrea Bocelli
Jose Carreras
Lyndon Hall
Seal
...............Oh I could go on

Puts the Britney's, Whitneys and sealions firmly in their place.... Nul points

>Oh and Everything Andrew Lloyd Webber<

Robin, I can confirm that you are in absolutely no danger of being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

PS - Why listen to ALW when you can listen to the original, Felix Mendelssohn.

Rusty Springboard? Oh my golly gosh, that might explain a lot, beyond hope.

Re: Wot no...?

Coo, almost getting to my kind of music. How about:

Kate Rusby
Eliza Carthy
Katie Melua (though John Mayall's version of Crawling up a Hill is still the best ;)
Bebel Gilberto

No? Oh well :)

(Forgot to mention - you a Nick Drake fan, by any chance?)

Rick

Re: Wot no...?

Oh yes; definitely Eliza Carthy - I forgot her. She did a couple of Songs on Jools Holland's Spring Hootenany last year and they were electrifying. A very unique talent.

Nick Drake fan: Yes, 'fraid so. Boat name a bit of a giveaway - it was either that, or "Solid Air"...................

Big Bopper

Was, not is. Had a couple of hits in the '50s, though I don't recall any of their names.

He met his end in a plane crash, though not the same one as Buddy Holly. I think he may have been flying with Gene Vincent? Before my time (albeit only just), you understand. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

PS Sorry to raise the tone of the debate....

Re: Big Bopper

Not wanting to argue of course but it was the same plane crash as Buddy Holly according to what I have read

I checked it as it was bugging me if I remembered correctly and indeed........

"When the tour rolled into Clear Lake Iowa, Buddy Holly chartered a plane to fly his band to the next gig. Jape approached Buddy's bass player, Waylon Jennings, and asked for Jennings seat on the plane, so that Jape could get some rest and a doctors appointment. Waylon agreed and gave his seat to Jape, a decision that saved him, but killed the Bopper. Waylon would feel guilty for this for some time. The plane took off from Mason City Airport around 1:00 the morning of February 3rd, 1959, and crashed 8 miles after takeoff, killing Jape, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the pilot Roger Peterson." (Jape is the real name of Big Bopper)

Not much to do with sailing I admit but there you go!

Re: Big Bopper

Ha! Too clever for my own good. Somehow I had convinced myself he wasn't flying with Buddy Holly. I am sure you are right (well; you must be!)
