Does anyone out there have a recommended goop to suck through my Bukh DV10 water channels in order to give them the occasional cleaning. I can put the mix in a bucket and use that as the source for the solution, but what solution should I use?

Look forward to hearing from you

hi there
have been told and used white vinegar the same to put thru your heads, I used it neat while my engine head was off to try and break down the salt build up worked resonably well you could mix it up and run it thru the water pump it is cheap and enviromently freindly (to my mind)i left it in for about 3 months

I have used fresh water and Furnox central heating flushing "goop" to do this. It's hard to tell how much scale it actually removes but I have convinced myself that it works.

Central heating cleaner is Sulphamic acid which doesn't eat anything other than scale. If you are sure there is no aluminium or bronze you could consider using Hydrochloric acid in the form of brick and concrete cleaner.

Being a central heating installer I have found of the cleaners Sentinel`s ferroquest seems to be the best, it is ok with metals found in heating systems alluminium, copper, brass, plastic, cast iron & mild steel. It is also a rapid cleaner (should be circulated for at least 1 hour) some have to be left for up to 3 weeks the stuff we are now supplied with is nowhere near as good.

Do a forum search on fernox - quite a few threads and details of "how to". I have done a few engines with it including my DV24. I have not tried the Sentinel yet - maybe next time.

Hydrochloric Acid does nothing to bronze except make it very shiny.

As with any shock treatment, it is important to rinse well afterwards. Leaving strong treatments too long is likely to cause problems.
