We've got a couple of Dutch friends visiting the IoW this weekend and we're planning to meet up with them in Cowes on friday evening. Italian, Thai and Indian cuisine is a no no as is anything spicy apparently so...we're thinking along the lines of a good fish restaurant or French or???
Any recommendations for a REALLY good eatery with a good selection of decent wines would be most helpful. Not looking for snobby and stuffy, just really good food and wine.
Thanks

Got to be Corrie's Cabin then - English fine cuisine at its best. Not sure about the wine, although they will likely have vinegar.

(I'll get my coat !)

Not many good eateries in Cowes. Could try Lugley's on the Parade which is getting quite good reports at the moment. Otherwise taxi up to Newport for Burr's, Rendevous or Olivo's.

Ooh forgot about Coast. Went there the other week and yeh, it was great. Thanks for reminding me. Mojacs also looks good. Corries?...hmm lol.

Look for Number 3, its in the corner where the high street kinks by ISC, husband and wife been running ifor a long time, he cooks, she does front of house, few tables outside, small, cosy, salted caramel ice cream that is off the scale good. Previously called DB's. You won't be disappointed.

Mojac's very good (try the pork belly/pork medallion/black pudding trio something or other, v good, as is the cheese)

For fish - Murrays'

Red Duster nice enough, but not up to No3 or Mojacs.

This is great guys...thankyou. I love the IoW and this couple had never even heard of it until we mentioned it to them a few months back and so now they've booked a few nights stay there, we'd really like to show them some of its best bits.
Thanks again.

Raf, that looks a perfect setting for a short stay and if they haven't already booked a place, I'll recommend the balcony suite to them. Just read the linked Telegraph Travel review. There really are some hidden gems around aren't there.
Thanks

Yes, fantastic views from the balcony.

Amazing that no-one has found the real gem in Cowes........a place that is family owned and run, serves succulent fresh fish, boasts wines from around the world .............and is reasonable.......plus it's on the High St...........but not mentioned in this thread............keep looking everyone!!!!

We use the Red Duster. I've never been to Mojacs or 3 so can't comment on them.
The Red Duster is a family run business, friendly and goes out of their way to assist with menu adaptions. Gluten free, Birthday cake etc
I won't go back to The Coast. They don't accept complaints.

We went over to Cowes on Tuesday as a reccie for entertaining some friends next week. Went to Murray's and had a really good meal. Last time I ate there was 15 years ago and it's still as good. The fact it's still there says something, even if the decor hasn't changed :) . £21 for three courses with a very decent choice. A La Carte if you prefer.
