Good bye Sami

You're going to Port Grimaud?

I'm going in two weeks, towing the trusty Bayliner /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I'll keep an eye out for you, I'll have to remember the names of your boats. I'll be out most days until september.

Where abouts in port grimaud are you headed? do you own a place there or are you staying on the boat (probably not?) or are you renting one of the apartments?

Sorry if I seem over-interested but surprisingly i havent heard much talk of Port Grimaud even though it is such a lovely place!

I'd say pop for a trip down the River 'Giscle' that we have a place on, but it probably gets a bit to shallow for a big motor boat such as yours, I think mine will even have a bit of a job..

anyway, hope to see you while anchored off st tropez!

Look out for the humble 'Sole Caprese' /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

by the way, lovely restaurant in the port, called 'La Guitone'. Really nice. Owned by some eccentric frenchmen...

Will only be there for one night planning on moving around few days in each place come and say hi if you see us
I like that bay just the over side of st tropez where all the famous people have there houses cant remember the name though pretty place
Have fun
Not been to port grimauld is there a supermarket nearby where i can stock up thursday night
Regards

Ah right, you'll enjoy it, there are a few supermarkets around but not very big, If you are looking for big supermarkets like a Ge'ant or something like a L.eclerc, they are a couple of miles away, but there are a few small shops to pick up necessities in the town, but no great selection unfortunately :|

We just pop into a campsite about about 200 metres down the road called the prairies de la mer, that has a reasonably sized shop in it and they have quite a few english products as well, but who goes to france to buy english? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Have fun, dont forget Monaco is just round the corner as well! Well, 2 hours by car around the corner anyway lol

btw, can I just ask if you are using IMRAY charts? and if you are, are you using the M15 to plan some of your routes? Just wondered because I think thats what I need to buy so I know where I'm going..

anyway, enjoy

Chris

Hi Mark,

Yes have done Ilfracombe and Combe Martin, both last year and this, as well as Woolacombe, Croyde and Lundy. Just not brave enough to throw the hook out overnight, always run for home before night falls. Was hoping to try it in MH this week but other issues and the weather at the start of the week have kiboshed that. Hoping to go to Swansea later today but have to be back tomorrow night. May still get to MH as we can probably get away again Thurs PM, but again have to be back on Saturday - aahh the plans of mice and men!

Have a good time in France, post regular reports of your adventures if possible, I'll look forward to reading about them.

Kev

Hi Mark, pleased to see you are off to the sun again. Yes we checked out the islands off Marseille and further east last year when we had our boat delivered to Port St Louis. Firstly, the weather is notoriously windy off that bit of the French coast so expect F5-6 many days particularly when the seabreeze picks up. The island directly off Marseille is called Frioul and until recently was owned by the French military and to be honest it still looks like it. The marina is OK but it gets pretty crowded at weekends when boaters and trip boats visit from Marseille. There are a few shops and restaurants facing the marina but all look a bit bleak. Frioul is worth a 1 day visit but no more. Try and get into Marseille itself because that is worth a visit for the cuisine and history
About 20 miles further east is another island, Les Embiez, which is well worth a visit. This is an island which has been turned into a resort by Paul Ricard of the anisette drink fame and its been v tastefully done. The marina is pleasant and there's a fair bit to do with cycling, walking, an oceanographic museum, plenty of beaches and restaurants and shops. Worth a couple of days. Further east again and you reach the Porquerolles which are real gems although they will be very crowded. These are 3 islands, Ile de Porquerolle being the biggest and most developed, Port Cros and Levant. Ile de Porq. has a marina and plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance. There is a fabulous horseshoe shaped anchorage on the N side which is worth a visit. Port Cros is a national park and only has a few mooring buoys in its harbour on its west side but is well worth a visit because of its nature walks and peaceful atmosphere after the trip boats have gone. Levant is a naturist island. I think visitors can go there but there's no safe overnight anchorage. Anchoring around the Porquerolles is prohibited in many areas so consult the pilot book
