Going To The Boat Show ?

I guess you don't ever visit your local pub?

@pvb I am very risk averse, but then I’ve worked at the heart of the COVID response since last February, so I’ve probably had a particular conditioning to the risk.

It does all come down to personal perception of the risk to oneself and others, and for me I am still at the stage where I find mitigation measures reassuring.

Blimey, you must have a flippin enormous pub if it has thousands of staff and 105,000 punters every nine days from all over the uk and further. Must take ages to get a pint. ?

Doesn't take long to get a drink, as they don't need to check everyone for a "negative lateral flow test".

There's risk everywhere, Matt. Covid currently doesn't represent an enormous risk. We need to be getting on with life.

I agree about needing to get on with life. As I said, it’s a personal thing ultimately. I would be surprised if many people would decide not to go specifically due to having to take a test first, but I might be wrong ?

I’m doing a fairly substantial electrical upgrade this coming winter, probably spending £7k or so. A decade ago a visit to the show would be essential for R&D. These days it’s more informative, cheaper and easier to do this online. I’ve always found it difficult to get the serious focus of product specialists at a show because they are always in high demand. My boatshow days therefore I consider to be over as I’m never going to be buying a brand new boat…and I hate wandering around being a tyre kicker…

Yes, I’m going on a ticket bought for last year. It’s only 45 mins drive away and I find it an interesting day out, even though I’m not in the market for a new boat, or equipment or clothing. I usually come back with a few books. If it’s wet on the only day I’m free tomg, I won’t bother. No really the exhibitors’ ideal customer.

Can’t wait, been going for a number of years now and looking forward to it, It’s a daddy/daughter day out for us.
I’m just hoping that they won’t restrict access to the boats.

It’s also Cannes boat show time. I have noticed that all the offers of free tickets I used to get have been replaced by offers to sell me tickets. I guess that they need the money nowadays.
But while I agree that we have to get on with life, I don’t think we should go suicidal. Large crowds and cramped boats is a risk too far

No way! £21 for entry and then all that Covid nonsense?
I thought you were not going to the show as the last time you visited, you bought a new boat. Times must be tough if you cannot afford £21 as I presume you are not a RYA member to get a free ticket.

Also did you need to make 5 posts in this thread, when your original would be sufficient.

May be I should be relieved you are not coming to the show as you will not be able to see my renovated 41 year old Westerly Fulmar. :D :D :D
