Went across from the Deben to Holland for a short cruise last week - for anyone else considering a trip to the Westerschelde/Oosterschelde area the log write up on the website below may be useful (too long to put in body of post) - just click on Holland '05.

Neil,

Your weblog is a very pleasant read! Being Dutch and well familiar with that particular area, I find it very interesting to read about it through others' eyes... if you know what I mean.

A few (minor) remarks:
The Laughing Cow is in Dutch: De lachende Koe
Great restaurant indeed, suffered from fire damage last year...

Zeelandbrug: By VHF you can ask for the current height, as indicated on the Dutch charts. Also, next to the moving part of the bridge (Northern shore) is a digital sign with the exact reading... but you have to be close to it! (also indicated on the chart).

Just beyond the Zeeland bridge (or just before, coming from sea) is Zierikzee, another historical town like Goes but slightly bigger. Very interesting too, but can be extremely busy during summertime.

Cheers, Rene.

When you go again I would suggest the town of Veere is a must. It was exactly my impression of what a dutch town should look like. You will have to reverse into the harbour as they insist all boats point the same way and the clock seems to chime continuously (musically) but it is a superb spot, consequently very busy in summer so forget trying to turn inside the harbour.
