About 500metres S of chain ferry on Devon side is a public landing pontoon, you really have to look hard on the chart, no one wants you to use it, AFAIK it is the only public pontoon in Plymouth. Years ago it had a bad rep for scrotes doing the scrotes thing but it may have changed as the area has been demolished. When I was last there 10yrs ago there was nothing no water etc.
When I went past last week it was still there with no one on it but maybe Mod Plod do the heavy re exclusion zone.

It is still there but there is a padlocked gate stopping you getting on and off the pontoon, I think on H&S grounds. It is outside of the dockyard but I suspect quite vulnerable to wash from passing traffic.

Dleroc, a ketch motor sailer. Dirty white ish. Anchored further out than everyone else. But can't recall if we were here on Thursday. We spent a night just north of drakes island as there was no room in barn pool when we first came across. (Went ashore on drake to give the dog a run on the beach. Bloomin thing found a way up the rocks off the sand, killed a seagull chick and brought it back to me with blood all over her smiling muzzle and a flock of dive bombing pooing angry gulls. Not recommended)

Pontoon on Devon side. Interesting. Will check it out if we pass. If fence can be negotiated it could make a useful quick shopping stop off. Thank you.

I understand that it is to be renovated soon. As a matter of interest there is a memorial plack on the land side of the pontoon remembering those who left this point on Operation Frankton, better known as the Cockleshell Heroes, for the raid on Bordeaux.

Ooops landing on Drakes Island is prohibited I understand. The owner since 1995, Dan Macauley, has been sitting on it for years but has now submitted plans to convert the buildings into a 5 star hotel. Whether he gets the nod depends on what he plans to do to protect bats, birds et al!!

You're allowed to land below the MHWS line, pretty much anywhere... At least that's the rule I always go by. And the same with about 50 other people I saw doing the same thing over the 36 hours we were there. Nobody seemed bothered in the slightest, including the police patrol launch which passed repeatedly.

He now has one less bird to worry about when getting his planning permission :)

We're in cawsand now. Much easier shopping trips...

We're practically on the beach at the cawsand end. Saw the church in the national news over the winter. The shop has a collection box saying "save the clock tower", reminiscent of aback to the future.

No mention of that in the channel pilot rob, but I'll take your word for it and rectify the situation today after a walk to rame head and back. Presume a pint in the pub is also a legal requirement. Looks like it's going to be a nice day today...
