It has just been announced that the local the authority are putting the leases of the restaurants in the bay out to tender. Talking to some of the existing occupiers at Kapi, Sarsala etc it looks as if "big business" will take over, demolish the existing places and rebuild. Most of the existing owners have lived there for generations and could be deprived of both their livelihoods and homes.

Most of us who live here or visit this area like the rustic appeal of the area and want things to continue the way they are - OK some small improvements would be welcome but concrete edifices???

There is a petition to sign but it's in Turkish:

If you would like to sign the petition please go to the link aboveand then:

"Isim" is "First name"
"Soyadi" is "Family Name"
Email

and then press the button ""Imzani At"

Done. There seem to be a number of similar initiatives around Turkey currently, the one at Dalyan has I believe been successfully resisted

Could you be a bit more specific ?
I am interested because I use to winter for 11 years in the Göcek -Fethiye bays with Kapi creek ( Gubun ) as a hurricane hole.
It was paradise in winter, totally deserted, never visited in summer.
Thinking about returning for a winter.
The petition is for most forum readers a total mystery, more sailors could be signing if they knew what they ware signing.

Signed petition, Those places are to beautiful to be reserved for the rich.
If this goes on ( Afraid it will ) those bays will become “Private property “ as some other paradise bays along the Turkish coast.
In one bay where a big hotel was build we ware forced out by circling ski boats. Anything less than 30 m was not allowed anchoring. A few other bays have even soldiers with real loaded guns to keep yachts out. ( except for the owners yacht )
Wintering for free in the bays mentioned in the article will be over.
Staying some days without paying a lot will be over.
Fortunately some bays are left for the ordinary people.
