we have finally got a breath of wind in west wales and yesterday i could have got in nan hour or two sailing but this evening it will be dark at 5.30. why do we have to tinker with the clock

The wind doesn't know what the time is - there would have only been the same number of daylight hours left even if the clocks hadn't gone back!
