Does anyone know of a spares distributor for GMC.
The engines are GMC Torro flow DH637 10.4 litre built in 1972 fitted to an American Marine Laguna.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,Alec.

Alec,

I owned a Laguna 10M 10yrs ago fitted with these engines. There are a number of issues depending on what parts you need.
a. All the marinisation bits were made in house by American Marine. They remain (or used to) reasonably helpful re some parts ie used to supply new exhaust manifold castings.
b. Turbos can be rebuilt by any half decent turbo remanufacturer.
c. Injection pumps are Bosch and can be recalibrated by a dealer who has the right rig - Thames Valley Electro Diesel Unit 5 Hyperion Way, Rose Kiln Lane Reading, RG2 0HG on 01189 751199 used to have it.
d. Pistons and bearing sets I bought from NAPA (a type of Halfords) in the US. You want to ask for 637 Rings (Perfecr Circle 40707. Conrod bearings are 2400 AP I think.

However many parts are unobtainable off the shelf such as gasket sets (although I did get some head gaskets made up by a guy in California. These engines were commonly fitted to Greyhound buses and other trucks from the 60's and early 70's. If your engine is overheating (a common problem) it might be worth fitting Bowman heat exchangers. A very good workshop manual was available best way would be to trackone down via vintage commercial vehicle suppliers.

Hope that may help.

Nick
