Glyka, Davy S JB et al, why do Greek shops

Well i
I just received some Greek logic....Pre packed French new potatoes marked up at 159 per Kilo..Because it was pre packed I did not take it to the guy that weighs the vegetables, so he chases me to weigh them and puts a 189 euro price on them .I ask him how they were this price ,gets the manager to come to explain that I had to pay for the packaging.

I asked him is he was selling bottled tomato sauce at 1 euro a kilo. would he charge for the glass bottle weight on top he walked away...

Well, you chose the place to tie yourself to Bob!

Yes, first thing I noticed was this knack of some Greek customers to push in front of the (long) supermarket lines.

It's not aimed at Brits/Foreigners. Lacking express lanes, it seems to be customary to permit those with a couple of items, no trolley or basket, up to the front. Fair enough, but some people exploit this by carrying armfuls of stuff, enough to half-fill a trolley, and expect the same preferential treatment. SWMBO has developed a technique of jamming her trolley across the queue so they can't get by. If they try to elbow their way through, an 'accidental' shove sends their armloads of stuff flying. They do take the hint.

My pet annoyance in Greek supermarkets? The guys who are buying for small local guesthouses. They'll be after about 3 trolley loads of bottled water or similar basics. When each bottle has been individually checked through, then they want the tax deducted. This holds up the check-out girl for 10 minutes to get it sorted.
