Good evening!
Does anyone know of an effective glue/adhesive remover to remove old glue (looks like old rubbery contact adhesive) which was used to stick vinyl fabric to fibre glass. This glue will not sand off as it clogs up the paper.
Many thanks.

If you are cleaning up the whole of the interior ... its a pig of a job
Some people have found discs to fit on sander that will do it. I found everything I tried clogged. Slow speeds I suspect are the key to success

Scraped off what I could and reckoned what I could not get off with reasonable effort could stay there!

Any solvent will just make more of a mess and be a hazard to your health in a confined space.

Excellent though Stickystuff Remover is I doubt if is suitable for large areas.

I would add that solvents can be big fire risk !

If you do try any solvent acetone ( propanone ) included ensure you have good forced ventilation and that you also wear an "organic vapours" mask.

As pointed out above these solvents are also all highly flammable and therefore pose a great fire/explosion risk if any sparks or other sources of ignition are present.

The same precautions are necessary if you will subsequently be using a solvent based adhesive.

Look under Glue Remover on this site. The disk for angle grinder works best, though the other is required to get in to tight corners some times. Used them to prepare for replacing the head lining on my westerly.

Full mask (not the paper ones) and goggles and overalls required.

I gave up on wire brushes, solvents and sand paper

Yes VicS you're correct about stickystuf.

Depends on how big an area.

I've had succes with a face off disc in a drill at a very slow speed, it's Bloody messy and needs a quality mask.

Followed with "Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover"

Sounds the same as the stuff DRM mentions, may also be cheaper.

Varies from supplier to supplier I think you will find.
At one time it was amyl acetate IIRC but now a mixture of esters, alcohols, ketones and I even spotted toluene in one

I've got the same problem on an alloy mast ... someone had stuck halyard name labels all over the place! The labels came off (eventually) but left some rock solid residue. Thinners wouldn't get the sticky stuff off ... stuck like **** to a blanket! Don't want to use anything too savage in case it takes the anodising off ... any more suggestions? Anyone had the same mast problem?

My SWMBO used a white sponge type pan scourer, they are not as aggressive as the green ones, it worked a treat on our boom doing the same thing
