Glue 4 Mahogany?

...I was also toying with the idea of a bit of marquetry in the middle of the table but I've no idea on how to do this, but the idea won't go away. ;)

Glutton for punishment. I think Axminster do rosettes, banding and the like ready to inlay, but I couldn't find them on their site. There certainly is a way to cheat in that way. Never done it myself, but my Dad did used to do marquetry. A right faff.

Gone off the idea on time and practicality. The proposed design would be exposed at the fold of the table leaf and prone to knocks and splits. And then, i just couldn't be @rsed.
:D

How big is the table, and how many planks are you using to make it? If you have the skill and a good long plane, shoot the joints by hand to a close fit along the entire length, then just use a decent PVA to glue up - if you have to use sash cramps to get a close fit the joints will come apart again eventually, especially in damp conditions.
Otherwise go for biscuits and extramite. No need to go for epoxy - keep that for the hull joints....:D
