Seeing as its 3 months since being on the boat with another month to go I edited this short video of blue skies, calm waters to make me feel near the boat again.
I know this is a sailing boat but I thought it may show just what we have to do to increase speed a few knots ln light winds:p

You can also now see the entire story of the new boat Suliere told in a series of videos at http://www.sailingvideos4us.com/FreeToWatch.cfm

Choose multihull videos then Suliere the story so far. You can watch the whole lot full screen if you wish.

If you double click on the video you can choose to watch it full screen in HD if you wish. Hope you enjoy the few minutes of sun:)
Maybe a can tempt some to join me in the dark side?:)

Crew showed total Lack of professionalism

5:09

Crew and cameraman were all so engrossed with which bits of string needed pulling next they missed a mobo pass @50m on the plane, you at least Paul should know the raggie code by now and you all should have stopped what you were doing , jumped up and down wafting arms aloft shouting obscenities ;)

The Mobo was in fact Slurpy our rib and as such was part of Suliere a raggie boat hence a raggie tender and so there was no need to do the normal insults.

Since becoming a raggie I have found that there are an equal number of idiots on both sides and I experience little to no trouble with MoBos. More of a problem with other raggies not knowing the rules. Maybe I still have a soft spot for MoBo'ers:)

What convinced me to make the jump over to the dark side in the end was the ability of a sailing cat to sail much faster than a MoBo on long cruises - my planned 72 ft MoBo would not have had the range nor long distance cruising speed of the sailing cat BUT when in the UK and working time is so limited and your range for a weekend is very restricted when using a sailing boat. So I really can understand why many prefer the MoBo 0 its governed by their current lifestyle.:)

Have you thought about a 'black box camera recorder' ?
Now available in HD, record speed with integral GPS location with a google earth plot.

I've just got one to leave running in my lower helm window.

24 hour HD recording with GPS position/plot , re writes every 15 hours or so.

I've got it because I am fed up with raggies getting hooked on my anchor after tacking into me and @@@@@@ HM/pilot launches acting like idiots.

but you could effectively have 24 hour film of your cruise, never miss that dolphin/whale/seabird/pirate attack again ;)

(cost £250 but if you want one I got one for £200 inc VAT might be able to get another one at that price , feel free to pm me for details).

Interesting bit of kit and thanks for the suggestion.
I now have the full studio of kit that includes two waterproof HD recorders that offer pretty good quality - the main cameras record HD at 100 Mbps in 422 and so current recording has a lot more options and angles to it. My plan is to produce a 13 part sat TV series in HD so I have to mainly use fairly top end kit. These days there are many forms of HD:)

The real breakthrough in decent quality action HD although not the kit for recording the bulk of stuff is the GoPro - they have hit the market with a bang and we will be using them a lot for action stuff.

You have to admit there has been a drain over to boats with floppy bits - TCM. Rick and myself have all moved over to cats with floppy bits but few have moved the other way.
Actually, even if they're not in the forum, out of the boaters I met so far, a couple of them already moved the other way, and another half a dozen are considering that.
None of the MoBoers are even thinking to floppy bits, though most of them are concerned by fuel costs and are possibly looking at more fuel efficient boats.
Maybe British boaters are just more adventurous, I dunno.... :)

Hi Gludy and thanks for posting this very entertaining and well shot vid.

The picture quality is excellent. Those backlit scenes had very good colours and detail. I hope you don't mind, but I'd also be very interested to know what kit you're using.

Thanks again.

Ok.
I use a Sony Ex3 with a NanoFlash so the recording is done in a full 4:2:2 colour space at 100mb/sec which is twice the minimum standard for National Geographic Channel HD broadcast video. I do not use the cameras own 35 Mb/s recording except as an emergency backup.
For action work I have two GoPro cameras.
I have a range of Nikon lenses from Macro up to long telephoto.

I have a Sony EX1 for underwater work. The housing for this is massive.

Having all this quality I have top reduce it many times over down to SD or even less MP4 for you to see. You are seeing only about 5% of the original quality but somehow the original quality shines through.

The clips are from a DVD called Suliere - The Crossing which can be found on www.sailingvideos4us.com. It covers the whole experience of a 6,200 Nm journey from St Francis around the Cape of Hood Hope to St Helena then Grenada.

Here is a video we made that features some serious problems showing in our oceans.

Thanks for sharing your equipment details. The nano is an impressive piece of kit now, I had dealings with them in their early days of the XDR where they launched & shipped it with no documentation & almost just bricks in the box, suffice to say that I got a full refund after six months of broken promises. The nano they seem to have got right although in the environments that I film in the insides tend to fall to pieces !
It's just a shame that with all this BBC & other major broadcast companies imposed insistance on shooting with high end gear they still only transmit in suedo HD & that will continue until they get 3D yet again out of their system !
Anyway back to boating as my rant is probably for another forum! many thanks again
