Came up to St Kat's today - look who we shared the lock with

Fabulous - one of the best looking boats I've ever seen. A thing of true beauty. It's purpose is a tad confusing though. As MoodySabre points out HM didn't use it. I had assumed she would, and was very surprised by the rather ugly and tacky floating Chinese restaurant-like barge she did use.

what a waste of public money

The project to build Gloriana was initiated by Lord Sterling, who stated he got the idea for a waterborne tribute to the Queen for her Diamond Jubilee from her eldest son, Charles, Prince of Wales. Lord Sterling financed the estimated £500,000 construction cost of the project. Additional backers included Sir Donald Gosling and Canadian billionaire Galen Weston. After leading the Jubilee parade Gloriana will be presented to the Queen as a gift.

^This exactly, what a waste of an opportunity.

HM QE 2 shows great confidence in Simon's boat handling skills. No fenders deemed necesary to protect this very expensive craft. Then again, easy come, easy go!

I feel that perhaps I should now buy Santana a claret velvet cover for the Plastimo liferaft, even if I can't afford the decorative gilding

It was at the Great River Race finish that weekend, so that's probably why it was in St Kats.

Saw it at the Olympic stadium, Pageant, and launch at Greenland pier too.

Er.. Lord Stirling wants a bigger gong, order of garter or something, Sir Donald Gosling wants to be Lord Goose of Gander and Galen Weston as a Canadian wants any sort of gong, Possibly Lord Gander of Gander (Gander is in Canada isnt it?) enormous brown nosing exercise by the odious social climber Stirling who by all accounts when he was chairman of P&O used to go back and forth to NY in great opulence aboard the QE2 (if thats the latest one?)
