Gloriana

Ugly bit of kit imho. Have never been keen on boats that are used as flower beds.

Not sure if you mean Spirit of Chartwell, if so I have to agree. Very tacky, looked what it is. A trip boat tarted up. Aweful scrambled egg on bow. What a display of boat handling the skipper gave, though.

Gloriana, on the other hand, I thought was magnificent, a much better carriage for HMQ.

The whole pageant was fabulous IMHO, loved the bells, the LSO in the finale were great, with the choir belting out Land of Grope and Tory in the rain, looking like drowned rats, super.

I'm no royalist, but I thought HMQ was superb throughout the afternoon. If only they could dump that ghastly Camila woman!

Spirit of Chartwell was well skippered for a trip boat. If it had bow and stern thrusters which I suspect they were not visible in use to me. Takes alot to impress big head Cunliff so praise indeed!!

Had Her Maj used Gloriana, nobody would have seen anything of her. By using Spirit of Chartwell, they could build the greenhouse on top, and make it obvious who's who.

Ok chaps ... Having seen. Both in true life they are both amazing vessels and no not tarted up ships. You have to see them to believe they are not tarted up craft

I'm pretty sure the original idea was for HMQ to use Gloriana, can't remember why the late decision not to; I believe Gloriana has an engine or two so unrelible power wouldn't seem to be it.

I didn't think the Queen looked like she was enjoying it all that much, the photo-opportunity smile doesn't last too long...

Spirit of Chartwell looked ghastly, but agree 10 / 10 for handling.

At an early stage it was apparent that there would not be enough space
for the Queens protection team et al. Pity because Gloriana headed up the most impressive segment of the parade.

Pic of Gloriana taken by us when it was at Imperial Wharf and moored right by us. Power when not being rowed, is by electric engines and it had bow thruster - it broke on Saturday and was replaced overnight!
Stunning example of British workmanship IMHO.....not too practical as a day cruiser but nonetheless a stunning little ship.:)

Slightly enhanced :D

Was Gloriana intended for HMQ?

Do you think Lord Sterling was hoping the Queen would use Gloriana as the royal barge when he came up with idea?

Yes that was the idea but there was no room for all the sundry hangers on and security staff.
!! Didn't spot previous post with same reply!!
