I have a couple of these on board a boat I bought a few years ago. I think they are 2kg powder. Do they have a lifespan after which they need to be serviced or replaced? Any experiences would be appreciated.

If they have pressure gauges, I believe powder extinguishers are considered ok for as long as the gauge is in the green, ie no specific expiry date.

Given them a good shake until you can feel the powder moving as it settles...

...and just to be sure, if there's a convenient place you can mount them lying down athwartships. Then they get a shake every time you tack.

If no pressure guage there should be a specified weight - if below that weight the gas has gone! But yes, sitting in a bracket for a couple of years usually means the powder has settled into a blob & a good shaking is the minimum needed before use!
