Just wondered what experience other people have had with these aerials. I have had the glomex V9125 , 10" type , for over a year , mast head mounted good wiring and wire runs , in the solent area , its never worked very well and seems almost useless now in fact the alloy set top aerial works much better.
So i was wondering how other people have found these glomex aerials ?.
Are there any better tv aerials around that do the job ? , are the coat hanger type aerials any good ?.

Hi We inherited one on our Colvic Watson 32 around 5 years ago and it been up the mast for god only know how long. I got ip there and gave it a clean and it works well even in Morlaix France where we are in a river with high ground all around us. The worst place for it is Guernsey in the Victoria Marina at low tide but apart from that we are pleased with it

Have you checked the DC feed to the aerial and turned up the 'sensitivity' control to max?

I have a Glomex mounted on a pushpit pole and it works very well, particularly on digital and in the Solent where the transmitter is more or less line of sight.

If your set has a scart interface then get a cheap digi box and watch everything on Freeview - much better picture quality than analogue these days and more choice.
 
Thanks for comments and ideas so far , interesting . Yes i have got the DC feed to the amplifier,and red amp light is on . gain control , i tend turn it to near max . I think the amp only amplifies what it has received from the aerial then amplifies that signal to tv wasnt sure there was power going to aerial but mite be wrong.
I do use a cheap digi set on board so on freeview but some times it just shows bad signal with no picture at all.
When i try the tv at home it works fine which makes me think its the glomex not working very well.

Mine was cr*p on terrestial signal but after the digital change it's brilliant, even works in the river Yealm :)

We have always had very bad reception in Gosport so last Wednesday I went up the mast and fitted a Glomex 9125, the difference is amazing we now have good reception on all 4 channels.
 
The one we inherited on our yacht was 'orrible, until we found the control panel hidden behind a settee back and switched it on for the first time . . .
 
definately depends on the TV....

we had a 19" samsung LCD freeview....not a single channel worked (but works at home plugged in to my rooftop aerial)

now have an "AOC" 21" freeview LCD tv, get all the freeview channels more or less in the same location.

when i said mine worked well with a new TV, it was Samsung LCD !
 
Thanks all, Maybe the problem mite be something to do with a cheap Nikkai tv from maplins, but ,apart from a few trates ,it works ok at home.
I note there are many people very happy with the glomex tv aerials, nice to hear , baffled why mines so c**p .
Think i will try a different tv ,
 
Before investing in new TV sets, are You POSITIVELY sure that connections and connectors on the aerial cable are OK?

It'not that I want to defend an italian company (whose aerial I myself use since 2007 with satisfaction) but in our company's experience (producing and marketing broadcating equipment) poor cable and poor connectors take a major toll in any maker's product performance.

IMHO mandatory are gold plated connectors.

Thanks Gianenrico , You may have a point there , i did have to install two inline coax joiners which did seem of very cheap quality when fitting them , so i will replace those joiners with top quality one's .

That hurts in terms of db loss for the signal.

I suggest You look at som Sat Tv shop, where better quality material is generally speaking available; should be 75 ohm impedence. For in line junctions don't rely just in a "spring" coupling (known this side of the Channel as "F Connectors") but go for some "bolt and nut" one (was going to write"screwed type ones" but bet some smart one would have kidded me!!!!)
