Our tv reception is fairly good but on many channels it keeps breaking up. With the amplifier it is worse so don't have it plumbed in. It has been like this since new despite having changed connections both ends and having no connections in the cable.

Now our boat is in Sutton harbour in the middle of Plymouth so should have excellent reception. Looking online the television mast seems to be in Plympton which is east of us and the antenna is on the west side of the boat as she sits.

Could someone who understands such things tell me if it's likely that the antenna is being shielded by the mast before we go to the trouble of fitting an extension to raise it above the masthead.

Many thanks.

I had a Glomex at top of mast with average results, am in PYH. Just switched to a Avtex STH2000 currently in the cabin & much improved reception

Did read a report recently which stated the omni directional aerials sometimes suffer more from relected signals causing interference and if in a fixed position it's better to use an old fashioned directional one. This summer in one port, our Status omni directional wouldn't work but a small alloy directional one did but oriented vertically.

We have an omnidirectional Glomax on the very top of everything on the mast, used without the amplifier and it performs very well indeed.

Has anyone experience of the Banten series?

Tony

That would make sense as we are surrounded by tall buildings must be reflected all over the place. Thanks for your input I hadn't considered that

I fitted a Glomex Aerial to the top of my mizzen , with the amp in cabin 4 years ago and have always been disappointed with it. If I ever had to replace it I would get some thing else.
