Just idly wondering what all the fuss is about global warming,

I/we/us all run motor boats of different types, we are perceived as one of the polluters of the planet (as stated by a "green" friend of mine) burning loads of fossil fuel and changing the worlds climate, turning southern England into north Africa, my problem today is, if this is so, where's the bloody warmth ?

I've been down to the boat two weeks ago and removed 4" of ice out of the fender locker, and today this easterly feels like it's cutting me in half, so where's the global warming? it would appear to be down in Oz according to the news, why haven't we got any? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

its all a load of gidangas! how can such insigtnificant beings like ourselves determin the outcome of anything. how can anything that comes from this planet harm this planet .the planet decides not you or me. we are all being conned.
 
Global warming might be happening, and the experts might be right.

What makes me suspicious of experts is that a couple of years ago a different group of experts told us that the UK was going to become a desert as our water supplies dried up. I remember headlines about pipelines to Scotland and icebergs being towed around. It's pi**ed it down ever since.

And don't forget the bloke that made a fortune selling biological suits on e-bay as another group of experts told us we were going to be wiped out by bird flu. I think there was some mild suspicion about a dead swan found somewhere but that was about it.

By the report link from JMT the government should be taking all the tax off marine fuel with immediate effect. Cost of boats ,mooring fees, servicing and indeed fuel should all be made tax deductable. Government grants should be introduced for vessels of say over 200hp. For example a rib with a 200hp engine should attract maybe a 25% grant towards it total cost. Those who are really environmentaly friendly and want to run a 3000hp Sunseeker would get a 95% grant. Of course a massive government funded marina building program would be undertaken to provide free moorings for powerboats,funded partly by increased fees for sailing boats (how dare they kill the planet).
