Does anyone know the race waypoints for the Challenge boats?

If the Eddystone is one, I might go out there this evening and take a look! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

You'll have to contact Challenge Business to find out. Eddystone is one of the waypoints but, depending on the weather, it may not be used. I'm one of the team responsible for the race viewer and I don't yet know the answer. Here is the text from www.globalchallenge2004.com ...

The remaining options for the Race finish are as follows:

“Preferred Option - To enter the Solent from the western end via the Needles fairway and finish off Southsea Castle.

“Option 2 - To move the finish line to one of a variety of locations between the Eddystone lighthouse off Plymouth and the Needles. The principle is that the eventual finish line would be as close to Portsmouth as practically possible and to that end a committee boat based in Dartmouth or a committee boat from the Solent would establish a finish line determined by the Race Committee. The fleet would then motor or motor sail to Southsea Castle in the order of finishing before arriving at Gunwharf Quays.”

See below taken from the website.

The yachts struggled off to the west until the breeze filled in and then most gradually increased their speed and were able to alter course for the new Eddystone Waypoint off Plymouth. At 1000 most yachts were doing 8 or 9 knots and are expected to close the South Devon coastline early this evening, in which case they round the mark and head east towards Portsmouth.

The next update of position should be on the web within the next hour or so.

The waypoints are listed here http://www.challengebusiness.com/global/docs/Global_Challenge_Leg_7_SIs.pdf

Thanks Woody

Even if I miss the rest of the fleet, should see BP Explorer around breakfast time looking for the lighthouse! And their podium finish.

err.. yes I do work for BP.
