Received a cheap quote from them but too much fine print and I was advised by a couple of friends who had been with them that they (friends) had both had problems even with minor claims. I went else where (N&G) who although slightly more expensive have so far provided me with an excellent service and coverage and no hassle.

I am sure though GJW have many satisified customers and some may enev post a reply.

Bottom line is you only get what you pay for.

Been with them several years after ditching Pantenus who were teribly expensive and seemed to run a strange contract whereby you were automatically renewed if you didn't give them two weeks notice.

Not claimed but friend has and had no problems with them whatsoever.

Have been with them for nearly 10 years, but never had to make any claims.

This years quote went through the roof, so have shopped around and found a cheaper quote (nearly 1/2) with Bishop Skinner.

So not sure what their problem was. Shop around I guess and see what people say her I guess.

I've been with them for about 10 years.
I had one claim about 6 years ago when a rope around the prop in Normandy broke the engine.
They paid out full price for a brand new engine within a week and without quibble!

Hi Yanita,I was insured with GJW for 8 years but have changed now to K C Powell because of a huge increase in Premium. I never had to make a claim in all that time but a friend of mine did. His boat was rammmed from behind by a Dutchman in East Cowes Marina. GJW were quick to organise repairs etc but when it came to recovering his excess and other expenses they didn't want to know. He eventually got in touch with the Dutchman to see if he could bring pressure to bear on his own insurance co. The man was so embarrassed by the situation that he paid my friend directly from his own pocket.

I had a rope round my prop off the French coast last summer € 1,700 Euro for the French lifeboat to tow me into Cherbourg.

Rang GJW the same day as it happened and they paid up within the week, they even called me on my mobile to tell me that they had paid the French authorites direct.

First class.

I am with them at the moment - put in my first claim ever (lost propeller - £550 minus £250 excess).

Sent everything off about 2 weeks ago, so far not a word. Insurance up for renewal at the end of this month.
To put it bluntly: no money - no renewal. Will see how it works out.

I am with GJW ahve been for many years without a claim. I have also had a rope around my prop but I never felt the need the need to call the emergency services as the I was not in any danger and was not endangering the lives of others and I am suprised that our insurance covers this aspect. this could be why our premiums are escalating? It's not long ago (70's) when many yachts didn't have an engine on board and insurance was in the main to protect commercial traffic being subject to loss or subsequent damage through our error. Fully comp seems to cover a lot aspects that extend the needs.

Regards.

Peter.
