We run our boat in a bit of an odd way in that we cruise during the winter and so keep it in the water. We pull it out during the summer for a couple of weeks and sort out all the necessary bits. Our thinking is that during the summer it's dryer and so any finishes cure better and if hulls do need to dry out once a year when better than the summer !

I popped down to Endeavour Quay this afternoon (they seem a friendly bunch) to see how things are getting on and have a bit of a fiddle with the hull sides whilst it's out of the water. I have had shipshape (who clean the boat during the year) give it a polish and it's looking rather good. Last time I had a boat polished I was rather disappointed (I won't say who did it) and this time I nearly hired a "detailer" to come and work on it. Thankfully (financially) he never came back to me so I probably saved a few quid.

As you can see from the photos we had the shafts and props polished as well - after the recent posts of pitted props and lost props I had photographic OCD and took pictures of them both from all angles !

Stern gear is still in nice shape, trim tabs are like new still (I think they might be a composite material rather than just plain aluminium ?) and all the under water bits look fine. New anodes everywhere including bow thruster. I'll need to get some action shots when we're out in her during August.

Trying to sort out new cushions in that synthetic "fabric" which seems to be all the rage rather than vinyl these days. I wasn't sure how it would wear when I first saw it used but it seems to be holding up well so we'll give it a bash. Probably a set of covers as well either now or at the end of the season.

But pleased with the job so far, there are good marine support people out there after all. We'll be getting the engines serviced when she goes back in the water. Maybe it'll all go downhill then :)

Anyway, keep smiling

How bizarre is this! I've just been on to your website and you were the detailer I contacted!! I left a message on your mobile phone and heard nothing back so got shipshape to do the work.

I found you on Google but confusingly I landed on a FAQ page which I can't find anywhere on your website. It listed a load of frequently asked questions (not surprisingly :) ) and said something about the fact that it would always be you who worked on the boat for a mop and polish.

Anyway, I did try !

Looking v good Henry. For new canvas you need David Gray at www.flexicovers.co.uk. They make the originals. Great work and fair prices. I dont know who makes princess cushions and has the original patterns

Do you never a/foul the P brackets? Do they get crudded up? Just curious, because mine have always been painted in a/foul

With some recent circumstances Henry I may as well have been on the moon!

You are right about the FAQ page, I pulled it to add a few, but it will go up again, perhaps I should add ...Do you answer your phone? :o

I've been told I've got excellent stern gear !!

Thanks for the replies. Thanks for the covers contact, I'm speaking to Princess about the cushions / flybridge seating. That way it will be identical to a 2011 boat and fabric etc won't look "wrong".

Email sent re: the missed call, maybe next time. Does the price go up for a 54 ;) (in my dreams).

Volvo, you can email / call if you'd rather not answer on line but is there a problem not using a main dealer to service a relatively new boat? I have no issues skills wise, you have more than enough fans on here, just a fear of Volvo turning round if anything ever went wrong and using a non franchised dealer service as a get out of jail free card.

Also you said you hate the D6 engine, said you prefer the 1960's TAMD something or other ;)

I think it's going back in the water on the 24th. Will look to sort out servicing from then on.

Keep smiling

Henry :)

Henry id love to play with your d6s, how old is the boat, dont want to tread on dealers toes and mess up your warranty, but if shes 3 years old now then my warranty left you a while ago now.

I can also put you intouch with a man to do your cushions in the latest fabric for a great price!

Im just approaching an over 40 midlife crisis, i want a sportscruiser and a porsche!

You don't want a sports cruiser, you want a flybridge they're the future. I feel sorry for people who chase their childhood as they start to decay away. Who was that bloke on here? James the construction operative ;) Had a perfectly decent boat then threw it all away chasing his youth. I shouldn't wonder if he's not covered in tattoos and piercings now. Probably in some Tipee in the middle of Glastonbury this weekend :)

A Porsche on the other hand..... wise words my friend.

Let me ponder the service. It feels wrong to go out of the dealer network, though why I don't know, but it does.

Looks real good Henry. Mine will be having its first anti foul since new applied in the next 2 weeks. So that lasted 18 months, and cant complain about that.

Do I detect a hint of a wish list for the next boat??

Tee-hee, I'm a bit late to the (abusive) party on this thread, sorry.

I particularly liked this comment - from the guy that makes his living selling the quintessential mid-life crisis toy! :D

Cheers

Mid life crisis toy?

Good god man! A Porsche is for life, not just the middle bit :)

Got people off all through July so having to work through it, but come August I shall enjoying a life afloat again. Thinking of heading West but we've got a couple of public engagements booked which need working around so might have to break the trip in two. We shall see.

Really enjoyed Dartmouth when we went last and fancy a bit of an explore in what would be a new cruising ground.

I've had my eye on the new boat for years. Just waiting my turn ;)

Keep smiling

Henry :)
