I've recently fancied the idea of having a simple garden lounger fitted under the gantry on the back of a sturdy seagoing yacht.
I could then relax back with it on auto/vane and watch her sail accross oceans.
I'm also drawn to the idea of fitting a domed forehatch that has a gimballed seat beneath for the same reason.
Has anyone seen this done or have photos?

It has been done, but I can't remember who by. ISTR it was one of the long distance racers had a reclining gimbaled seat at the nav desk. I think Blondie Hasler had the astro dome hatch on Jester so he could sail in carpet slippers.

But, as the seat swings around a central point, your head will still move quite a bit. I'd think there would be a risk of a cauliflower ear or broken nose as you whack into the dome edge. Good luck.

You can buy acrilic domes here and here. There's one built into a hatch on this projectplastics page.

With the hatch, I think the problem will be finding a place to put it where it doesn't obstruct the running rigging and where you can get to it to look out of...

I believe David Lewis got a Boeing seat and put it under a dome on one of his solo boats. Let's hope it was from the cockpit, not cattle class!
