This thread inspired me to contact Gill - they replied within 10 minutes and said they'll replace the boots!

Bought a pair of Musto M1 boots about ... how long ago? 15 years at least.
Have seen quite a lot of use and, I have to admit, are showing signs of wear, also of a temporary repair with Sikaflex. Due for replacement I reckon, but still don't leak and 15 years isn't bad ...
I have had to replace a pair of Gill boots but that was after about 5 years.
What do you fellows do to your boots?

I don't think I'm a aheavy user, day sailing about fortnightly and perhaps a full weekend a month,each time launch and retrieve tender then use as yacht boots. I don't race round the cans twice a week etc.

I think the Gills have a design or manufacturing flaw now, but they fit me,are priced OK, and if I should spill diesel on them they won't smell for 10yrs.
they are quite thin walled,but comfortable and flexible, so they have reinforcement patches up the heel, and they split at the edges of those.
Added to that the surface of the rubber goes from a dark blue to an oxidised pale blue as if it had been badly varnished. The soles survive.

Gill replaced both my pairs foc, they may well have been 5yrs old.



I didn't have all these issues with the first pair I had, so I think some cost cutting happened.

Judging by the growing number of problems reported on here, and subsequent replacements by Gill, I would think that Gill may very soon be reviewing their product range.
Unless of course the high ? incidence of failure is built into the cost. But that would be naughty, wouldn't it? !!

I am happy to admit that mine were replaced without quibble, and for that I am grateful to Gill.
