Gift \'Orses - Charting Software

A fellow forumite has given me some "FREE" charting software
Having lost the instructions and having tried unsuccessfully on several occasions to get it working I have now found out that it is'time-limited' and defaults to the 1836 RN survey data if not activated.
I don't want to embarras myself further nor call into question the name of the forumite who I shall not name but has anyone else been given any software and if so does it work?

UKHO Chart Pack 11 - Clyde and Sound of Jura.
I think it came as a prize from somewhere and I seem to remember that Sgeir got a copy as well - he seems to have dropped off the planet at present and I think he is still involved with fitting the shagpile around the downstairs bidet so I can't ask him if he's got it going

Re: Gift \'Orses - Charting Software

You may have got hold of one of a small batch of 'beta' products that had a few flaws, should not have been distributed outside the UKHO at Taunton, and which were ( mostly ) returned to the HO for replacement when problems were discovered. According to my source in the RIN, it seems their PR lady had been unaware until someone 'out there' discovered some problems with isolated depth contours - pinnacle rocks - and some seamarks.

The rogue 'beta' examples seemingly wrote certain key-values to parts of the Windows Registry, which could affect other Chart Packs, too. It only occurred with specific combinations of Windows OS Build Numbers and graphic cards.

I was told they thought they'd recovered all the rogue copies, but if you're at all uncertain, post the thing back to the UKHO - PR Dept - at Taunton, reminding them of the story and requesting a replacement. They're ever so helpful.

[/ QUOTE ]Well, this sounds all very exciting, but a bit too technical for me.

Does it have anything to do with the Cuan Sound?
