Hi id
Like to know all about the gibsea 372. Thinking of buying one for extended cruising.
Like to know are they any good for such things. Would it stand up to the worst of the bay of biscay can throw at it or popping to Iceland and back. Are they robust enough for such punishment or would they be more suited to day sailing from Weymouth. ah ( not that there’s anything wrong with the south coast)
I know The question is a bit like how long is a piece of string but I find it difficult to track down any useful reviews. Thanks Dave

Welcome

You may already have seen this sailboatdata.com/sailboat/gibsea-372 tells you a lot about the boat - wide beam light(ish) displacement, relatively shallow draft cruising boat. Not surprising you have found little on it. Few (100 or so) were built a long time ago and doubt many made their way to the UK as new boats. No doubt some have been used for extended cruising, particularly from France - most modern style boats are capable in this type of use, but there are probably better boats for the job. Like all 30+ year old boats, condition and equipment are important, and kitting out an old boat for extended use is not cheap!

A well maintained and properly set up one would be fine and would survive better than the crew would but I don't think there'd be many who'd pop to Iceland and back in one. But there's very few indeed who pop to Iceland and back at all in anything, unless you're Roger Taylor. Quite a lot of people pop across the pond in such...

Would not be my choice, though a pretty good boat for within-reliable-weather-window or lower latitude careful ocean cruising . Having been inverted off Iceland I might not be alive had it been in a modern Med-orientated and accommodation-orientated cruiser like a Gibsea 372. I suspect one would spend a rather long time inverted before righting, much like the Beneteau 390 'Ocean Madam' where crew died in Biscay following an inversion.
