Gibraltar Marinas-top tip!

La Linea Marina

The marina at La Linea opened on 2 Aug. We arrived there on 4th. There are approx. 20 boats ranging from a few small local boats to half a dozen visitors and some long term annual berth holders. the staff both in the office and the dockside are very pleasant and helpful; even the security on the gate!

The berths are slightly wider than average with mostly finger pontoons. There are some teething problems but work is on-going. Not all pontoons are fully operational with water and electricity.

The showers and heads block including laundry is extremely well appointed but as it's the only one it's a hike from all but the nearest pontoons.
You can walk to Gib, Ocean Village in 30mins across the frontier and active runway (don't forget your passport), and La Linea in 10-15 minutes.

As yet there are no leisure facilities. It is planned to have the usual bars and restaurants and a fully capable shipyard and dry storage facility.

La Linea is a pleasant Spanish town once you get away from the tourist ridden border area. But we've heard that the town is financially broke, council workers haven't been paid etc. and we saw a political demonstration in the narrow streets (all good humoured though).

One problem locals brought up is the road access to the marina. Currently you have to join the long andd constant queue for the border before you can get iinto the marina. Tempers have flared when some people have 'jumped' the queue just to get to the marina! Something will have to be done if the marina is ever to be a success.

On a minor point, there are too few suitable mooring points on the reception quay beside the offices; only 3 or 4 ship sized bollards 20-30 mtres apart!

That said it's still better than Gib in my opinion because it's Spanish and nearly empty!. Ocean Village is far too touristy and expensive and too small.

Rates as an idea, a 12x4.8m berth is €14 high season and €8 in low season plus electricity, water and taxes. (High sason is 1 May to 31 Oct) This year's daily rates are obviously low to attract clients who knows what they may be next year. Annual rent is €4024 but there is a 20% discount for advance payment. Wifi is available but not free or cheap.

Hiya,

Everyone has to clear in on arrival to Gib. Its fairly painless bit of form filling at either marina office. The staff then fax that, with photocopies of all crews passports to Gib Customs and Immigration.

Any snags and customs will come to you. Can refuse entry and chuck you out!

Its a lot easier than some countries. Its life.

Hope this helps.
