Hi all,
Sometimes I am lucky to be sat on my van de Stadt 42 on its swing mooring in the sun, ticking things off the jobs list. The only place I have to live since coronavirus took my work away.
Most of the time I am unlucky to be stuck on my van de Stadt 42 on its swing mooring in a storm and unable to get ashore.
You decide.
Today I consider it unlucky as despite the sun my new foe is constantly staring at me.
I have two Gibb 8CR winches in my cockpit. Completely seized since long before I bought the boat in November. They are largely surplus to requirements but having something sat there not working is not my way.
Problem is I can’t get the things apart. I took a large bolt out the top and couldn’t see anything else to get at so figure the drums should now just slide up and off. However, no amount of heat, mallets, crowbars, halyards or anything else can get them to slide off. Is anyone familiar with the model? Am I missing something? Or should I do some pull ups and try again.
Cant find any manuals aboard or online for these ancient contraptions.
photos attached. Note one was slightly raised already and the liquid in the top is wd40 (and rain water).
Cheers,
