As this is when people are heading that way to start the ARC, I would imagine the weather to be fairly good at this time of year. I went down from Spain to the Canaries last spring, and we had to motor nearly all the way as there wasn't any wind at all !

I did it in November 98 ( wanted to arrive in Las Palmas after the ARC´s departure...) and after 20 hours odf motoring friom Cape St Vincent, got a pretty fresh northerly almost all the way. I departed from Cape St Vincent because there´s a "trraffic separation lane" there and I would get all my big ships in one fell swoop, as I was singlehanding - saw about 10 of them, in crossing the lanes and only one afterwards). Your chances of getting a SW gale in October are pretty low
