Had porridge for breakfast in Yarmouth last Sunday. Cooked in an ancient aluminium Billy Can. All you need is a dedicated stirrer on board. But we have to pre-wash the pan over the side or it blocks the sink.

Once cooked porridge on a skiing holiday and found we had no sugar but we did have mini Mars Bars. Chopped up and stirred in to porridge they produced a memorable breakfast and heaps of calories for the days skiing.

Hi Nick
Heard a story once, but cannot authenticate, about a Choochter student who came down from the highlands and went to the big city to advance his education.

In best highland fashion he would fill his drawers with porridge which would cool and set. When he was hungry he would cut himself a slice.

I believe that he became the first case of scurvy in two hundred years!

Regards
Cameron

The only oats I eat are in haggis. Which, just to upset the Burns' boys, I nuke in the microwave and then plaster in ketchup. No-one else in the house will even try it - come to think of it, they won't even come in the kitchen!

my recipe for porridge..

Soak oatmeal (not rolled oats) overnight in the apple juice from tin of blackberries in apple juice.. add honey and simmer gently in the morning until hot...

Or Soak oatmeal in water and whiskey and then add fresh blackberries, honey and creme fraiche.. probably not for breakfast tho..

NB if you soak oatmeal overnight all you need to do is heat to required temp!
