Dear All,

Any recommendations as to where I could go to get a value for money training course to get my Powerboat 2 / ICC.

I don't want to spend the £200 odd quid usually required but do want a good, reputable School - I note some are now selling unsold space on eBay for a lot less, but obviously you are limited to the spaces they have.

Cheers,

Grant

It can work out cheaper to do the course on your own boat and get some freinds to share the cost. To get the tickets it has to be done though a recognised school. Talk to a school near you , most can be a bit flexable on price for own boat course.

That would be non-tidal. Tidal price in Lowestoft with RNSYC is currently £137.50, but there was one on the west coast(Gwynned???) advertising cheapies recently. Try here.

first lesson is that you have to forget about costs in boating- otherwise its an automatic fail ! If you can, dont get too focused on the costs. £200 if theres just perhaps 2 of you on the course for 2 days means you ll get alot of attention and training yourself, but £150 if theres 4 of you means you arent going to get much time yourself. And although of course you want to "pass", you can also think in terms of what skills you have picked up during those 2 days, that will enable you to enjoy yourself more without that niggling fear about whether its you or the boat who is in charge!!. When i did mine some years ago, I d say alot of the 2 days was wasted with some complete bozos who had difficulty working out what was forwards and what was backwards. Could argue perhaps it wasn such great value after all. Id go for the qulaity of the training rather than the fee, but whether your local £200 is the better quality....!
