Getting the topsides painted - Clyde - any recommendations?

I intend to bite the bullet this winter and have the topsides painted - after two seasons, the mix of much faded gelcoat and more or (rather) less blended in patches of paint from past scrapes has lost its appeal and I want the boat to look the fine thing she is.

The boat is overwintering in the Firth of Clyde. Can anyone recommend a firm to give my pride and joy the makeover she needs? The boat's afloat, so we can travel.

two options come to mind

Silvers marine on the Gareloch ££££
Port Bannatyne Boatyard at the marina on Bute

Have used neither for paint... I have seen they have the facilities ... but Silvers has a good reputation and services lifeboats and Swans ( the expensive yacht type)
Port Bannatyne boatyard did a good job of re-engineing my boat, do good GRP and osmosis work and have a paint shop.

I eyed up Silver's website earlier this year but reckoned £££££ - and I think they've been taken over since then.

Which leaves two suggestions, both of which I'll look into.

But are there really only two yards on the Clyde where I might get a boat painted? Pretty depressing if so.

These two are the best , there are others , but it is your pride and joy , ive seen many stunning jobs coming out of silvers who whilst under new ownership still employ same staff .

My last boat was totally refurbished to as new condition At port bannatyne , by new owner , again stunning ,


An alternative would be james miller of helensburgh who does amazing hand painted jobs , i recently saw a swan mast he painted and complimented owner on the best spray job i'd ever seen only to be told james had done by hand .

Have you considered wrapping - not sure if there is anyone north of the border doing it but have heard good things about it. Apparently it can compare favourably to the cost of a top quality paint job?

You cant have peace , quiet , relatively few boats on the water and a paint shop on every corner!

Given lots of us are tight and will do it ourselves with a paint brush, you can only support so many painting facilities from our pool of boats

And, as a result, an incredibly long queue. I've been waiting just for a written quote for a smallish job since August. The work is beautiful, when they eventually do it.

I've seen a couple of topside jobs done by the yard at Clyde Marina but these were both new gelcoats. They did look extremely good. I'm sure they'll do paint as well.

Thanks everyone for the further responses. That wrap looks great but I think I'll stick with paint - not being an early adopter (my other winter project is my first ever chart plotter!)
