My fabulous local engineering company has been bought by some faceless corporation, and is no longer taking private jobs. as an aside, the chap I normally deal with was almost reduced to tears. These small jobs used to break the monotony of production stuff kept them sane. What price economy?

So, panel, anyone got a tip for a friendly and reliable firm that can do one-offs at a sensible price. They need to be able to accept a cad file and payment via web, and post out. I don't need a high speed service.

Thanks in advance.

Can't point to a specific company, but you could try a google search for "water cutting Surrey" instead of "laser cutting".

Water cutting also produce superb results.

Found these companies - but I don't know them

I have extensively used these guys for a number of pieces from simple pieces for chainplates to quite complex shapes for a stem fitting modification. Thay have taken simple Microsoft Word drawings and converted them as required. Will post out and prices have been quite reasonable.

The cut the angled plates and base piece to modify my stem fitting for a Manson anchor (All the metal work in front of the pulpit tube attachment point).

They prefer cad files if available and take card/paypal payments!

Thanks all. Personal recommendation was what I was after.

LaserMaster looks very good, but the idea of getting stuff made on Lewis has huge appeal. BIL was the GP there, and helping an island economy is good. I'll try them both with different projects..

I have used Tenon Engineering Ltd in the past at Dorking.

That will remain a memory, for I'm sorry to have tell you that Tenon is the company I'm talking about.

It's about ten days since I emailed asking who to request a quote from. No answer. My guess is that they let themselves have a main customer, and that it has bought them.
