Getting rid of deisel smell

My helpful local petshop girl says that many of the cat urine products just mask the smells rather than get rid of them.
At twice the price of others in the shop, £13.27 for 500ml, she says 'urine off' ( not the name of a football club owner ) has the best results of eliminating cats urine smells.
Not sure if it will be o.k. to eliminate diesel smells though.
It contains pheremone blockers???

I remain sceptical.

Diesel smell seems to 'hang' in the air and gets into the fabrics in the boat such as bedding and cushions. Not sure what to do there??

Try the Toilet Duck first! Jill was on a delivery trip taking a Sunsail boat to Scotland. Thanks to a leak in the fuel filler hose a locker in the cabin she was sleeping got half filled with diesel. The cabin was untenable. Within a very short time and treatment with Toilet Duck all smell was gone and she slept there for the rest of the trip.

When you say Toilet Duck .... are those the blocks that people hang on the side of the toilet bowl? ... what do you do ... just stick one in the bilge?

Having recently told a delivery skipper to fill the new tank, in the cockpit locker, through the filler on the top of it, not the disused and disconnected deck filler I shouldn't have assumed he listened - in fact I showed him as I was telling him! Of course the boat got delivered stinking of diesel and I realised what had happened ... 'How much' I asked ... 'Can't have been more than a cupfull' he said ..... yeah right!

As for the primary filter its a CAV type and I am minded to change it for a spin off type filter which would be easier to remove, any suggestions as to which is best.
The Racor fan club will be along shortly (nothing wrong with them but a bit pricy); if you want the natural sucessor to the CAV then you might want to consider one of these:
http://www.ssldieselparts.co.uk/filter-assembly-sfa11-p-718.html
fitted with a screw on Delphi HDF 496 filter, as fitted to Land Rover Defenders and many other commercial vehicles. Should be the same size & threads as your CAV; £20 the unit, £10 a filter, widely available.
No connection etc.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I found some viro-sol in the garage and I have washed down the engine and surrounding areas with it today.

Also have found an adaptor in ASAP that fits the Cav head and allows the use of Racor spin on filters looks good so will get one before next filter change.
