Why spoil a perfectly relaxing sail with all that timing nonsense, shouting at others, trying to get sails up / down the quickest etc. Always seems so undignified to me /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
My elder brother and I used to race fireflys in our youth. On one particularly foggy day in the river at Shoreham the Race Box could still hear us bellowing at each other as we rounded the gybe mark at the furthest point of the course!! We won of course!

At the mo it looks like I will be coming round on Sunday for a looksee. If there are crewing slots available for the Monday race (I can make tea) then that would be grand. Or, if there is enough wind to actually get Pipedream moving at a reasonable pace, then joining in the Monday race is a possibility. Whichever, Bernie has asked me to cause as much chaos as possible to the other racers ....................... or wasn't I supposed to say that ? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
By the way, is it a silly question to ask about berthing possibilities this late in the day ???

I have a local spy who tells me very few Rice & Coles moorings have been booked so it looks like they will have space for you. But might be a good idea to give them a ring.
A propos your racing tactics - just stay outta my way! Some might say that would be a sensible precaution whether I'm racing or not.
Oh, and be a gentleman and move over when I lap you!

If last year was any comparison keep to the shallow bits for least tide and carry a kedge. I gave up on the first day after an hour drifting backwards past the roach. When we ran out of porkpies and crisps the crew threatened to mutiny and it was all over. I'm more concerned about what happening weatherwise on Monday and whether I will be able to get back to the blackwater on tuesday. Any thoughts?

If Windguru is anything to go by then a SW F3 should be ideal either for an early dive through the Raysand Channel or the long route.

BTW have you read the small print of the Sailing Instructions?
There is nothing onerous there but little things you can easily overlook.
For example:~
You have to have ,flares, bucket & lanyard, heaving line, lifejackets etc.
Courses are displayed at certain points ashore, not necessarily on the committee boat.
Minor rule infringements cannot be exonerated by penalty turns, only % added to time.
I have a spare class 6 pennant in case the chandlery runs out.

Here we go again. Last year I remember we had some really close din dongs going up the Crouch when I had 'robyn of rochford'. This year I am 5 foot smaller so you will probably be well ahead of me. See you on the water tomorrow!!!
I think that class 6 is pretty much the only fleet that has been getting bigger each year.
