Thanks for that tip MacD.
Sounds like a great way to avoid having too light an anchor deployed if as happened to us, a thunderstorm suddenly made the light danforth totally inadequate whilst moored bows to in Anzio. But for the fact that the danforths jaw caught in a submerged trawler cable we were toast!As it was the light cable was singing with strain as we wound in on a primary winch!
So with your good advice we could have put to sea if the bower had been planted a good way off!
I will use this method next time I want to be further from the scooter traffic on the quay!
