Any magic methods for getting dried engine oil residue out of the bilge?
I have got out the worst, get the last bit needs some kind of chemical help to shift it.
What magic stuff can I spread on it, and the wash everything away????

I use a kitchen de-greaser that is called "Chante Clair". I find that it is very powerful and has never failed to shift oil, grease, tar and other oil-based muck.

Do either of these do the job without been agitated with a brush? I ask as I've got a nice cake of hard sludge in the bilge but most of it's inaccessible

Biocleanse.

It contains microbes that eat oil. I had a hard to find diesel leak that impregnated the boat woth a stench that SWMB could smell on my clothes when I got home, but that got rid of it. A bucket of water and a cupful of Biocleanse and leave it to slop around for a couple of weeks

have a look on Oiltechnics website

They have lots of clever biological gunks which you spray on, leave for a day or so, and then swill out. The big advantage of their stuff is that it does not harm the marine environment.

In this month's "Voiles" they recommend spraying on undiluted Ricard.

Where can I get it (in France??) - it sounds perfect.

Alternatively, bloke on our pontoon has a voracious strain of diesel bug, will probably eat sump oil, possibly polyester resin if hungry...

I think that's how they make ricard?

Do you mean Biocleanse made by Teknon? It's the only one I can find but it says it's a disinfectant containing benzalkonium chloride. No mention of microbes that eat oil. I wonder if I've found the right one?

i used gunk, white spirit and aldi original washing up liquid down the deep dark narrow hole on the hurley 27.

then used a sponge mop to get the mixture out and put it in containers to take up the dump. then cleaned with detergent then rinsed with water. what an awful job that was.
re painted with no problems.
not sure the gunk was any better than white spirit.
