Getting connected?

Remember, it's the GPS that determines the baudrate , so read the book before just setting to 9600.
The mouse GPS could be a "Fortuna U2" have a Google.
Ian, have you tried NMEAMonitor or NMEAsleuth? I can send a zip if you want, but they're free in hyperspace.

Not tried those ones Bill but I have tried others, I'm going to get another serial to usb adapter and try that. Still got the old Toughbook which works OK but I'll be loosing that soon.

CMap93 is the software. Many of its plotter features will not work until you connect a gps, ideally a gps dongle. CMap 93 also requires the gps to run at 4800 baud. You need to run the Config.Exe file in the Cmap93 programme folder to set up the gps and confirm the comm port. After that the Cmap93 software should give you a fix, and allow you to set up routes etc. All you need to spend is £30.99 in Amazon, see http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000PKX2KA/incomp-1-107795-21/ref=nosim
or search e-bay

Worked fine for me,

Why don't you try the USB dongle on the Toughbook? You might save yourself a few quid. In my experience, if there's a problem it's more likely to be the software/firmware that's causing it rather than hardware.

I should have thought of that.:(:(:(

Thanks

Hi again.
Just to say Thanks to you all for the excellent response.
As soon as I get hold of the laptop I will try and get it set up.

Managed to get another dongle tonight and it works fine on the new laptop, that's what I get for buying cheap on Ebay
One thing I did discover was that I need to connect the GPS before running CMAP or it doesn't get a NMEA input. With a serial port connection on the old lappy I can plug it in at any time and get nmea data.
Thanks for all replies and Eamonn sorry for hijacking your post. Once we meet up you can see how mine is set up.

No problem Ian, it probably answered more questions than I would have known to ask about, so a win-win situation for all concerned, or wait now, is that known as a 'Positive Reinforcer'? will need to go back and read Skinner or Bandura again. confused:
Cant wait to get the salt air and whiskey vapours in the lungs again.:D
