As a matter of interest only, apart from the money... what are the considerations of moving from something like a 45ft motor boat to a 55ft motor boat. (BW keep your mouth shut!).

Things like, mooring, handling, regulations, qualifications insurance issues, maintenace (Including lft out) etc.

Assume the boat is based Solent or Med. Also assuming boat may want to cruise inshore Europe (allowing that it's size, draft etc is not an issue )

Umm, it's mainly the money, imho.

Handling actually gets easier, not harder, imho. Insurance not an issue - an ICC permits up to 24metres. Maintenance also is easier with more space.

Also, a total lie to say "purely out of interest" so ful info pls

Air draft an issue inland.

"The Med has got me" (no not the Medway the other Med)

Limitation on all the nice little places that one can go. I would not want anything bigger. Else stuck in poxy marinas.

Mooring in Med is generally function of beam not length. You know UK .

Insurance function of cost / value NOT size

Maintenance function of engines/number/manufacturer/abuse

Quals , no different ( in France I think that's true up to 25m ( TCM will know) after which YM required..(???)

...I wanna boat please..

You can't let us down. You ALWAYS know....

Funnily enough the reason I know you get an exemption from the French stuff with a YM is cos I happened to do my Dskipper with a guy who was Capitain of Baroness Rorhschild's boat and the 'neatest' way to get around the French requirements was exactly that ( albeit a few years ago)

...I wanna boat please..

Main problem as I see it Martin is keeping in line with the Coastguard regs on vessels over about 50'

If its Solent based, the major problem is berthing both long term and overnight. I believe there's a waiting list at most marinas for 50+ feet boats and you cant just sneak into places like Yarmouth at 18.00hrs on a Saturday night. The boat will be too large for some mooring buoys as well eg Newtown Creek. But biggest problem is cleaning the bloody thing - expect 3 hrs on a Sunday evening for proper job
I think about 40' is optimum for Solent
