Hello to you all,
I keep my twin outdrive boat in Hoo Marina, of which some of you may know virtually dries out at low water.
I have to keep the legs raised at all times to ensure they dont sink into the mud causing unecessary damage and blocking the water inlets.
My cause for concern is the recent bout of low temperatures and frosts, freezing water that is left in the outdrives and causing freeze damage.
The drives are Volvo sx single props (2006) and the exhaust is throught the centre of the prop of which water sits when the drives are raised all the way up.
The engines have been flushed through with fresh water after last used and drain so I know the blocks will be ok.
I havent had cause to worry before as the drives were able to remain down previously when the marina was being dredged.
I would like to hear from other sterndrive owners if im worrying over nothing??

Kind Regards
Danny

My outdrives were also on a tidal berth up at Rochester, any water in them would have been salt, it would have been re submerged in salt each time the tide came in.
Unless the river water actually freezes (it needs to be really cold for moving salt water to freeze) had no real concerns about damage to outdrive parts.

Rafiki has twin Merc outdrives, and was in the water all last winter, temps down to -19C, marina froxen up for 42 days. This is "fresh" water, not brine, on the R Severn. I keep tube heatersd in the engine room, on a stat at +5C, and this set-up was OK, so I don't think you will have a problem.

I am sure the previous responses are correct but it it were my problem I would run some anti freeze through it just to be on the safe side and let you sleep at night! Assuming you are able to catch the offending waste liquid before it kills all the fish of course.
