I'm looking at ordering some small circuit boards from China to get delivered to a boatyard in Portugal. I've heard rumours that the Portuguese postal service can get picky with Chinese deliveries and it might end up in some warehouse somewhere and get stung for lots of duty. Anyone know any better?

Address isn't a problem, more interested in will it arrive or end up hidden in some obscure office like Canaries & many other parts of the world then get stung for some weird duty even though they only cost $2. Could ask the chinese shop but doubt if they get many circuit boards posted :)

No problem at all for stuff up to a value limit of I dunno exactly - 20 EUR or so. Ordered dozens of small bits from Aliexpress whilst we were wintering in Portugal, all arrived, usually in up to 6 weeks.

How quick do you need it? We will be down in Olhao in the next few weeks..they can post it to me in UK if that would help :)

I'm going to uk in a couple of weeks and returning around the 2/3 week March if that's any help.

Huge thanks, that's really generous.
Though I think I'll try getting it sent here, few things on the back burner so worth checking out if it works .

Perfect! Thanks very much, just what I wanted to hear. JLCPCB estimate 15 - 25 business days delivery for 7 quid or 3 - 5 days DHL for 18 quid. Tempted by DHL.

The only time I had anything to do with DHL from China the package went to Lisbon and the Customs became involved. For small items the post seems to be ok as long as you insist on a tracking nº when you are ordering.

Yes, avoid the courier services, they tend to do everything by the book and then make you pay for it. Use the default delivery method, usually China Post and be patient. Delivery times vary greatly, but typically around 4 weeks. We've had stuff come in just one week once, but several times it took 6 to get to the Portuguese marina (8-9 here in Sicily). Only lost one so far (in Italy). Less loss than in the UK! :)

Have been getting small things sent from China for years limit the price to twenty euros and I have never lost anything, never had any extra dues charged but do not expect fast, anything from seven days to seven weeks. Couriers are a mixed bag, never had any problems at a marina or campsite but private addresses are a nightmare even if you have a mobile number. Also with marinas and campsites the posty always brings the package because he knows the reception will be manned all too often with private addresses the posty just pops the card in your letter box

I suppose DHL are ok for small stuff , I ask for a price to deliver a dinghy from Holland to Malta , haven't stop laughing 2800£

Spain and the Algarve have transport companies that serve the expat community. You have your package delivered to their UK warehouse be it on a pallet or just your shopping from Tesco and it comes out on their weekly truck and can either be collected from their depot or delivered on to your location. Very useful for parts from UK sources that do not like shipping overseas

Hi Peter
Funny in the end I found a company in Malta that if it's taken to their hub in Holland they would deliver it to Malta for €160 . Which is more like it .

Check Interparcel rates, they offer DHL,TNT,UPS we use them for our European deliveries quite often and they are far cheaper than going direct as they buy consignment space off the big carriers.
