Monel metal = nickel based alloy, strong and resistant to corrosion (Chambers Dictionary). Often used in marine applications.

Same. It is a brand name. There are a couple of MONELs most standard is 400. They vary in properties slightly, but all are approximately 2/3 Nickel and 1/3 copper.
